How to Reach – Delhi to Katra

Katra, located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, is the most visited place in the state. It serves as the base for the pilgrims to reach the most popular shrine, Vaishno Devi. Moreover, the city is bestowed with natural beauty.
Vaishno Devi is a famous pilgrim center in north India. This temple is dedicated to goddess Vaishno Devi whose idol is placed in a small cave. The cave is 30 m long and one and half m high. The temple is situated 14 km from Katra. The temple is situated on the Trikuta Hill at a height of 1700 m above sea level. The temple can be reached either by foot or by ponies. Now we can have helicopters and environment friendly autos to reach the temple.

The best season to visit the temple is from March to July. The number of visitors to Katra is increased for the last two decades. In Katra, we can see many shops selling curios for the pilgrims. Handicraft items, jewelry, dry fruits, souvenirs, jackets and items for offering to the goddess are available in the shops. Other than Vaishno Devi Temple, Bhairon Temple in the city is also an attraction to the devotees.

Delhi is a perfect combination of culture, tradition, power and politics. Delhi can be reached by all modes of transport. We can roam around by buses and metros in Delhi. Akshardham Temple is a new temple dedicated to Swaminarayan in Delhi.Katra does not have an airport or railway station. The only way to reach Katra is by road.
Bus is an option to travel from Delhi to Katra. There are frequent non AC buses are available that cost you around Rs. 250/- and air conditioned Volvo semi sleeper buses charge you around Rs. 800/- for a trip.Taxis charge Rs. 12,100/- to reach Delhi to Katra. This cab is for four people. For seven people it costs Rs. 16,800/- for round trip.

If you have your own vehicle it takes approximately 9 hours 20 minutes to cover the distance of 610 km depending upon the vehicle.
There are a lot of accommodation facilities available for the guests in Katra. These include luxury hotels, resorts, hostels and budget hotels. Tourists can avail accommodation according to their budget and interests. Advance booking is a must for the seasons. Some free accommodation is also available for the pilgrims.
